The Grove Infants is a community school for children from 4 to 7 years of age. It is situated in Southdown on the edge of Harpenden, and the current building dates from 1967, although there has been a school in Southdown for over 100 years. We have 9 classrooms, a hall, a dining room and a library to accommodate our 3 forms of entry in each year group. Our purpose built Nursery was opened in 1988 and extended in 1995, and has a dedicated outdoor area. The school looks out onto the open landscaped site that we share with The Grove Junior School. The outdoor learning environment includes space for Reception classes to enjoy a wide range of outdoor learning, Infant play equipment, a wildlife garden and a friendship garden. Each year we offer 72 part time Nursery places, and 90 full time School places. This year we have been able to offer a limited number of full time Nursery places, but this is subject to availability and will be reviewed as the year progresses. We currently have approximately 340 children on roll when full.
At the Grove we are very proud of our record of strong academic achievement, as well as the breadth of our curriculum. This includes our well established Forest Schools programme, the Gold Artsmark that we have been awarded for more than a decade, and our continued drive to enthuse, excite and interest our pupils through diverse learning opportunities. A thriving, happy and creative learning community, we put children at the centre of all of our endeavours. Our experienced staff team welcome all new families to our friendly and successful school.
