The Grove Infant and Nursery School

Happy + Inspired = Success

Ofsted Outstanding in all areas - November 2023

Welcome

Welcome to The Grove Infant and Nursery School website

I hope that you enjoy exploring our website and find the information that you are looking for here.  The website aims to give visitors a taste of the school and provide access to important information for not only existing parents and children, but also prospective families.  If you have any further questions please contact our school office, and staff will be pleased to help you.
Ofsted visited us in November 2023, and found our provision to be OUTSTANDING in all areas.  We were delighted that what the community knew and felt was validated by the Inspection team.

The Grove Infants is a community school for children from 4 to 7 years of age.  It is situated in Southdown on the edge of Harpenden, and the current building dates from 1967, although there has been a school in Southdown for over 100 years.  We have 9 classrooms, a hall, a dining room and a library to accommodate our 3 forms of entry in each year group.  Our purpose built Nursery was opened in 1988 and extended in 1995, and has a dedicated outdoor area.  The school looks out onto the open landscaped site that we share with The Grove Junior School.  We work closely with the Juniors at all levels, and you can access their website through this link.
The outdoor learning environment includes space for Reception classes to enjoy a wide range of outdoor learning, Infant play equipment, a wildlife garden and a friendship garden.  Each year we offer 72 part time Nursery places, and 90 full time School places. Children access either 15 or 30 hours free childcare in Nursery, as long as we are not full.  We currently have approximately 270 children on roll when all spaces are taken.

At the Grove we are very proud of our record of strong academic achievement, as well as the breadth of our curriculum.  This includes our well established Forest Schools programme, the Gold Artsmark that we have been awarded for more than a decade, and our continued drive to enthuse, excite and interest our pupils through diverse learning opportunities. A thriving, happy and creative learning community, we put children at the centre of all of our endeavours.  Our experienced staff team welcome all new families to our friendly and successful school.

Please feel free to contact the school direct with any queries you may have.  We are always happy to show prospective parents around.

Best wishes
