Our Curriculum: Programmes of Study

The Grove Infant and Nursery School - Curriculum Intent

Learning to live and learn together harmoniously is the foundation that underpins all of our teaching.  We promote positive attitudes to learning, by actively teaching positive values necessary for future success - kindness, respect, fairness, honesty and voice underpin key learning behaviours identified as independence, collaboration, perseverance, thinking and communication.

Our curriculum is designed to be ambitious, to interest and challenge children, providing a wide range of stimuli and first hand experiences to engage and inspire our community of keen and willing learners.

Teaching and learning is planned to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND.

Our curriculum emphasises the importance of early acquisition of essential reading skills, enabling children to use their developing skills to access knowledge in other subjects and develop independence and autonomy.

Programmes of study across the curriculum are designed to progressively build skills and knowledge within all subject areas, whilst making links across the curriculum that allow children to revisit what they have learnt and apply their learning in different ways.

We recognise the importance of teaching children about the diversity of modern British culture and the broader global community, celebrating and valuing difference in preparation for life beyond our school

We continue to strive to be at the forefront of good practice and we therefore tweak our curriculum accordingly.

We have generated our own programme of study for each subject identifying our progression in skills and knowledge here at The Grove Infant & Nursery School.  These are working documents which we update regularly to reflect enhancements in practice and delivery.

For EYFS, good practice is to plan based on the children's needs and we update our programmes of study regularly to reflect our ongoing planning.

For Key Stage 1, we have mapped our curriculum and this is reflected within the documentation to maintain the excellent breadth and depth of experiences we provide.

Our curriculum continues to evolve as we have updated and embedded our themes to ensure excellence in all we deliver. The documents you will now find on the website have been updated to reflect current content. Creativity is a key driver and our learning reflects this.

The Programme of Study documents support staff in ensuring appropriate coverage, knowledge and progression. Further planning documentation is produced in school to support high quality teaching and learning.

Please have a look in the English and maths sections to see our approaches in those core subjects.

Each half term we produce a curriculum map detailing further information for parents about each area of learning.  This can be a really useful way of finding out the topics your children are studying.  Please do talk about these areas at home!
