Our Intent for Design and Technology
At the Grove we aim to teach Design and Technology as an inspiring, rigorous, relevant and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils are taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in the process of designing and making. Pupils work in a range of relevant contexts; (for example, the home and school, gardens and playgrounds, and the wider environment) and they acquire a broad range of subject knowledge with cross curricular links to Mathematics, Science, Computing and Art.
Throughout all DT topics children begin by looking at existing products (where possible) as a starting point. The process is to evaluate existing product, design new one, learn and then practice the skill needed and then make (often through mock ups to begin with). They then evaluate their finished product and discuss improvements.
